Wet Dreams What is Normal?
One of the many questions that we get here is from young men who want to know what is normal and what is not normal in regard to wet dreams. Technically it is referred to as a nocturnal emission, but in common language everybody just calls them wet dreams.
For those who don't know much about them, a wet dream is when you wake up in the middle of the night having just had an orgasm and finding yourself in somewhat of a sticky mess.
Young men living at home then have to discreetly find their way to the bathroom to clean themselves up and then tuck their underwear or nightclothes down the bottom of the washing basket.
The mother of course knows exactly what's going on, but playing her part in the discretion she continues quietly as if she never saw the ending result. This is the game we all play.
Frequency of Wet Dreams
One of the biggest questions of course is how often do wet dreams occur and in truth there is actually no answer. Personally I know of people who have had two or three wet dreams in a single night, and others who only have them once a month or so.
It is pretty much related to the sex drive of the person so obviously the higher the sex drive the more frequent the wet dreams will be. Masturbating will take the place of the wet dreams, so someone who will masturbates every day or every couple of days may never even experience a wet dream.
Also regular sex takes the place of the wet dreams so once someone is in a steady sexual relationship, their wet dreams usually stop unless of course they are not getting the amount of sex required to satisfy their sex drive in which case they can still have wet dreams.
As men get older, the frequency of wet dreams will reduce and by the time they reach middle age, most men will never experience any more wet dreams. These of course are all generalizations and if you fall outside of these expectations, it is nothing to be worried about.
Having said that however if you are regularly having four, five or more wet dreams a night and it is concerning you, you should not feel ashamed nor discouraged from visiting your doctor and asking him some questions. If you never have any wet dreams even though you're a young hormonal teenager, you should also not be concerned, especially if you masturbate periodically.
As a side note, if you remember your dreams they are usually very pleasurable and intense and mostly well worth cleaning up the mess afterwards.
